Definition. Background.
The Stud Book (L. Gco) is a computerized system that houses a database whose maintenance and management is supervised by associations of purebred livestock breeders officially recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of Spain. The specific Regulations of the Herd Book of the Lidia Bovine Breed were published in the Official State Gazette on March 21, 1990 by O.M of March 12, 1990.
The Herd Book of the Lidia Bovine Breed currently includes the five associations of livestock breeders of this breed that exist in Spain; AEGRB, AGL, AGRL, GLU and UCTL.
Goals.
Promote the progress of the fighting race.
Organization.
The Stud Book is made up of three Records:
Denominations.
Livestock breeding a beef is that in which it was shod.
Owner livestock is that which has ownership of the beef, whether or not it is the one who shod it.
Operation of the Stud Book.
The collection of data for the Stud Book of each livestock farm for its control, registration and subsequent computerization is carried out through a series of standardized forms approved at the time by MAPAMA.
Legal base.
The Lidia Bovine Breed Stud Book is governed by the Statutes and Internal Regime Regulations of the UCTL Stud Book.
UCTL genetic improvement, selection and conservation program
The Genetic Improvement Program is the zootechnics project to which the European Union devotes special attention given its importance.
Objectives pursued by said program:
Likewise, the aforementioned laboratory will be responsible for carrying out the deposits and custody of the samples in the DNA Bank, parentage analysis, mating design, average degree of kinship and calculation of inbreeding requested by the farmers and the characterization of populations.
Confidentiality of Information.
The genealogical and phenotypic information of the animals evaluated is absolutely confidential, with access only to the farmer or the person authorized by him.
Advice from the Complutense University.
Both the female candidates for replacement and the male candidates for stud will be classified based on all the information available from their relatives, plus their own information. In the case of farms with genetic connections, joint genetic evaluations will be carried out.
The scientific information prepared will include the genetic value of each of the animals present in the livestock farm for each of the behavioral characteristics evaluated, together with the reliability or statistical precision of the assessment, as well as the genetic merits of the combinations of each female of the livestock with each of the stallions, with respect to the evaluated characters, along with the value of the average relationship of each of the candidate cattle for breeding.
Rancher’s missions.
The special idiosyncrasy of this unique breed means that the most expert and interested qualifier is the rancher himself, who is the one who directs the operations of the tentadero and observes the behavior of his animals in the bullrings and in the tents and therefore He is the optimal evaluator of his animals, and the only person who will make decisions in the field of selection.
The genetics chair provides the farmer with detailed information on various selection parameters, but this is carried out exclusively by the farmer by choosing his breeding stock, designing the matings (mating lots) and evaluating the behavior of his cattle.
